The Simultania Project was an interesting project to participate in!

We didn’t reach our intended recording location (and it was a crappy weather day!) so we recorded the 1 minute at a TA Travel Center at I-90 and US Hwy 20 Marengo – Hampshire, IL.

This was actually quite challenging to time the recording as the artist requested. Took a bit of planning to get setup in time.

Quick edit of the original recording. It’s about 45 minutes of recording time condensed down to just over 22 minutes.

After we left the mic a Ring Necked Pheasant charged the mic stand. I later went back assuming the pheasant had left and he jumped up and flew away.

Just a progression of an image I was playing with this evening.

Converted to black and white, adjusted levels and added noise. Kind of Ansel Adams-ish.

Added frame, more noise, sepia tone and a handful of other effects.

Tonight the Naperville Carillon held it’s first “Scare-illon” concert – titled “Bats in the Belfry”.

If you’re not familiar with a Carillon, see the Wikipedia entry here. It’s a really cool (and HUGE!) bell tower that’s played with a keyboard somewhat like a piano or organ.

The Carillonneur was Tim Sleep. The audio excerpt below is the Adams Family Theme.

It was a great show with a great public turnout!

It was driving me nuts in some ways that we sold our teardrop to P&P so I was looking for something to do that wouldn’t take a lot of time, was easily built (and hence easy on my back) and unique.

While researching my dad’s side of the family a few weeks back I stumbled (once again) across the families original name on a site about Romnichels (gypsies). Hmm, serendipity?

The Gypsy Vardo is the project! Timothy Lemke (and crew) have put together a great book and plan set to build one.

Between the things happening in the pictures below and more, I’ve not had much time to post. I have some topics to post and I’ll get them posted in the next week or so…

Lets see, we’ve got some fresh veggies out of the garden, some fishing and one shot from the midget car races at the Grundy County Speedway. Good fun!
